We believe in the inherent beauty of each person. Our goal with styling, then, is to create a polished look that is true to you and who you are. If you never wear makeup, we may use a powder to even out your skintone and prevent shine, but we will keep it very simple. If you normally wear makeup, we may use some of your favorite products and then add in some of our own to take it to the next level.
Our stylists are professionals and work with all skin types and colors, so know that you are in good hands. Please read on for a few tips on how to get ready for your big day!
"Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin."
Having clean (or day old, depending on your hair) hair is an important step. If there are too many products or oils in your hair it can be difficult to work with. Also, please make sure your hair is dry so we have time to stye it. If your hair is wet, we may not be able to complete the styling in the time we have.
If you have favorite hair or beauty products, please bring them with you! We have an incredible selection of both at the studio, but you know what works best with your skin & hair- and we are happy to use what works or looks best on you!
Don't worry if you have any visible blemishes the day of your photo shoot. We can minimize the look with makeup and also work on removing them when we edit your photographs.
Although SPF is one of the most important protectors for your skin. we ask you to forgo it for your photoshoot. If we use the studio's lights, the brightness reflects differently on products with SPF. Please bring it with you & you can add it on at the end if you like.
Lips have a unique texture and, as with other makeup, lipstick will adhere differently to dead tissue than fresh. Due to their texture they can also be very difficult to edit in post, so please take your toothbrush and run it over your lips to exfoliate any dead tissue.
For the most part this is not the time to try out a new style (as with all rules there are exceptions to this). It's absolutely fine to get a haircut or color to make you feel more like yourself, but think twice before changing things up too much.
Your fingernails won't show in most of the shots, but they may show in some, so please make sure they are styled the way you prefer. A nude nail is absolutely fine but a peeling red nail may not be the look you're going for. Please make sure your nails are ready prior to arriving at the studio.
Getting a good night's sleep prior to your photoshoot is a great way to prepare! We all generally feel our best after a good night's sleep and it shows!
If you have dry or flaking skin, please exfoliate it prior to our session and then moisturize. Makeup will adhere differently to flaking skin than it will to fresh skin and can create a different texture.
As with SPF, beauty companies are overwhelmingly using shimmer and/or glitter in their makeup. Unfortunately, when light hits the specks of shimmer, it can look like sweat so please avoid any lotions or other products that include it. Look for "matte" in the description to know there isn't any shimmer!
Haircuts can make you feel refreshed and confident which is a great way to go into a photoshoot! That said, it often takes cuts a little while to settle in, so I recommend getting them done at least a week in advance. The same goes for hair coloring/highlights.

For this session, we began with a more simple headshot look. Kiara is a potter and wanted something that conveyed a more casual, artistic approach (thus the hole in her jeans). We then moved on to a more feminine look with a beautiful, white linen dress, and ended the session with a more dramatic look- a one-shoulder black dress.

For WaiWai's session we began in full hair & makeup, primarily changing her look through her clothes and poses. She began in a simple velvet dress from the studio before switching to a more professional look with a white halter top. We then moved into a slightly more feminine look by changing to a corset-style top with pearls, and ended the session with a more dramatic look both in wardrobe and makeup.

We began Ellen's Signature Session with simple hair & makeup that we kept throughout each of the wardrobe changes. Her wardrobe is entirely from the studio- beginning with a black silk camisole and full tulle skirt, followed by a feminine pink silk one-shouldered top, and then ending the session with a faux fur scarf and beanie hat.
